SOULKITCHEN THE CLUB SINCE 1990

Soulkitchen – brand new flavours with a long-standing tradition. The Soulkitchen was a legendary night-club in Hamburg’s famous red-light district St. Pauli during the early Nineties. Not only Germany’s first pure Rare Groove music club, and one of the first on the globe, it was also the homebase of “The Soulkitchen Cookin’ Crew”, a DJ-team which took its international audience by storm with an increasingly infectious, and deliciously danceable meal of Soul and Heavy Funk.

The subsequent founding of the recordlabel Soulciety with signings of Soul and Funk legends like Bobby Byrd, Roy Ayers, Lonnie Liston Smith, Eddie Bo, Roger Troutman, Dean Francis and many more, emphasized the true and ambitious love for original Soul music from the late Sixties, Seventies and early Eighties. Ever since, “The Soulkitchen Cookin’ Crew” has been doing its thing worldwide, playing live and DJing in the original, immortal Rare Groove style.

EMUSAN born 1966 learned about music at the age of 8 when he began playing piano and singing in the school choir. Later as a teenager he started to collect records and was rocking the first parties as a DJ in the late 80ties.

In his early twenties he opened a club, “the SOULKITCHEN” which was groundbreaking in the beginning of the global “rare groove movement” located in Hamburg’s redlight district “ST.PAULI”.

Growing a multi active entertainment group, containing clubs, bands, a label, a publishing company and a booking agency was an ambitious plan, but got accomplished and established in ’94, together with his partner and friend Götz Bühler, as the SOULCIETY Music and Entertainment GmbH. As the managing director and owner, DJ EMUSAN has been running the company and at the same time been able to develop an international network, specialized to work urban music.

Later he was hired to work the urban department as the "marketing manager urban" at Eastwest Rec./Warner Music Germany. In this position he successfully marketed US acts such as Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Sean Paul, Brandy and many more. He was also the A&R responsible for developing and establishing many national and international careers.

In 2004 he left Warner in order to establish himself with his production company “soulkitchen productions”. By signing, producing, managing and developing artists with major company recording contracts in the US and Germany, he grew into his dream position and in early 2006 kept working with his partner Götz Bühler on various projects, products and productions. He also formed the band and producer team LEE ARMSTRONG EXPRESS with funkateer and soulbrother Lee Götz Armstrong and got involved as the band member Emanuel Armstrong.

As the CEO and founder of the SOULKITCHEN GmbH (Inc.) he is running his very own 360° company and is still actively involved in music; well as a DJ and music maniac ... for life.
